In the future, I would like to professionally co-design a sports car…

… quite a few Chinese students from the partner faculty CDTF in Qingdao, China come to Germany to enroll in the study programs in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering with this or similar expectations. Thus, the tour of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg was one of the highlights of this year’s summer school in Paderborn which is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service. The main focus of this summer school was an intensive, four-week intensive language course offered as an additional educational service of the CDTF; it is intended to raise the chances for CDTF students in the next TestDaF. This language course was enhanced by insights into the European (university) culture and companies operating in Europe as well as in Asia. On their tour of the Autostadt, the group focused on the design and assembly of VW vehicles. A subsequent tour of selected production areas at the VW plant was particularly interesting to the students. The countless robots of KUGA, a by now predominantly Chinese company, left a lasting impression. They rapidly and precisely manufacture undercarriages and body parts for the Golf and Tiguan, both VW models.
