German students prepare their Chinese fellow students for their stay in Germany

Almost twenty students from Paderborn who are enrolled in the program “Mechanical Engineering China mb-cn” will spend the month of September at the partner faculty CDTF in Qingdao. Half of the group will participate in a four-week summer school which includes introductory courses in Chinese and Chinese culture. The other half will work at the CDTF for the entire winter semester. According to the mb-cn curriculum, they will expand their Chinese language skills, support Chinese students in their learning process in German speaking tutorials and complete essential parts of their own seminar papers. For details of the study program mb-cn see https://mb.uni-paderborn.de/mb-cn.

Following an invitation by the CDTF, the German students participated in welcoming this year’s approximately 200 first-year students at the CDTF. They offered advice to their Chinese fellow students on their future stay in Paderborn; this will take place in about 2-3 years after having learned German and having completed large portions of the basic studies in mechanical engineering. – Almost 50 CDTF students of the year 2014/15 will have reached this goal this summer: following three years of studying German and mechanical engineering at the CDTF, they are expected in Paderborn for the winter semester 2017/18. Assuming they meet the language as well as the professional requirements, they can directly enroll in the Bachelor or Master study programs in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering. Gaps in language skills can be filled by taking supplementary DSH courses. Packed and almost ready to go, they attended a departure seminar which was co-designed by German mb-cn students where they learned a lot from them about living and studying in Paderborn. Frequently, contacts between students from Qingdao and Paderborn are established during these seminars. They often persist and are an important basis for successfully completing a study program in transnational educational projects.
