Students have to write texts during their entire course of studies. In the first semesters, only internship or seminar reports are asked for. Later on, a student research project has to be completed and written up, and towards the end of the study program longer Bachelor’s or Master’s theses have to be composed. Many students are familiar with the problems of choosing suitable literature, formulating a preliminary draft or filling the first page with introductory words. These are well-known facts for Pia Nettingsmeier of the “Competence Center for Writing” at Paderborn University (photo center in the back). She has already provided suggestions to numerous interested CDTF students ranging from initial data collection and reading as well as structuring read and studied material up to the initial draft of the text and its concluding revision. In the near future, the “Competence Center for Writing” will offer advisory services designed specifically for Mechanical Engineering.
