Specialties from the Far East impress visitors of the Intercultural Week

Again this year, CDTF students and the Association of Chinese Students added to the “Intercultural Week” at Paderborn University. The Chinese students presented specialties of Chinese cuisine at their booth. Visitors learned about the background and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival which is currently celebrated in their home country; next to Chinese New Year and the Moon Festival, it is one of the most important celebrations in China. They talked about differences between China and Germany: on Sundays, only few people are on the streets in Germany; in China, however, inner cities are crowded because people use this day off to go shopping. – Samples of Chinese sweets, tea from the fruit Luo Han Guo (“Monk’s fruit) and Chinese black eggs gave visitors an idea of the delicious Chinese food. Co-students gave their best trying to write their names in Chinese characters using ink. Chinese students gave away good-luck wristbands and Wang Le captivated the audience of the cultural program with her play of the Guzheng, a classic Chinese string instrument.
