A group of faculty members of the Qingdao University of Science and Technology just spent several days in Paderborn to exchange experiences. At the QUST, they are responsible for selected teaching, research and administrative tasks. Dr.-Ing. Vera Denzer and Bowen Deng put together a diverse program for their guests. A tour of the university campus included the library as well as several lecture halls. At the booth Chinese students had organized for the intercultural week which was currently taking place, the visitors had the opportunity to talk directly to Chinese students. At the international week, students from different countries present interesting aspects of their home countries. – At the center of a brief tour of downtown Paderborn was the recently founded Confucius Institute, where the guests from Qingdao met with the institute’s director and several CDTF students who participate in the Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering. The students talked about their experiences when they started their initially unfamiliar study program in Paderborn. They identified parallels to their studies at their home university and pointed out differences in academic teaching in China and Germany. A number of Chinese doctoral students provided an insight into their current research projects and the PhD examination procedure in Paderborn. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jianguan Bo, vice dean at the CDTF, took the opportunity to talk about the current student exchange with his coordinating colleagues from Paderborn. For the new academic year 2017/18, about 50 students from Qingdao are expected in Paderborn.
