Following a long-standing tradition, shortly after the beginning of the winter semester international students are invited by the mayor of Paderborn to a meeting a Paderborn's historic city hall. The building was designed in the Weser Renaissance style and is one of the city's prominent landmarks. This year, numerous international students were welcomed by the city's deputy mayor Martin Pantke and Prof. Dr. Christine Silberhorn (photo in the center), Vice President for Research and Junior Academics at Paderborn University. A large group of CDTF students were accompanied by Fu Shihao, chair of the "Organization of Chinese students" and scientists in Paderborn (photo on the right); quite a few students tasted "Paderborner Pilsener" for the first time which prompted memories of the well-known Tsingtao beer which is brewed in their home town.- The mayor gave a presentation of his city, including highlights such as education, sports, nature and its economic power. He encouraged the international students to also use their stay in Paderborn for socializing at the various town festivals and countless other cultural activities. Prof. Silberhorn gave an overview of the key aspects of research and teaching at Paderborn University. She advised the international guests as well to not only focus on their studies, but also exchange views and swap ideas with other students about the numerous cultural and athletic activities offered by the university.
