Instead of talking about bicycle technique and repair of individual bike parts and components using PowerPoint slides and exercise sheets, CDTF students and their fellow students enrolled in Technical German visited the AstA Bike Shop. The participants discussed technical advancements and developments with the student staff of the repair shop on campus. In former days, most bikes were equipped with a front wheel brake and a backpedaling brake; today, caliper or hub brakes are preferred. The group was particularly interested in an old bicycle that was converted into an electrical bike by simply adding a few components such as an electric motor, a power pack and control elements. In this well-equipped bicycle repair shop, students can - for a small fee - professionally change a flat tire using a tire tool. When re-mounting the wheel, the screws are tightened with a torque wrench for the correct tightening torque.
