Several students from the partner faculty CDTF will start their professional studies in the mechanical engineering bachelor program in Paderborn this summer semester. A few students already arrived in Paderborn last fall to take a DSH class (German language proficiency test for university entrance) to improve their German language skills and prove their DSH level 2, thus acquiring the language skills necessary to begin their studies. An introductory seminar prepared them for their studies. After an overview of the curriculum and advice on the often very different study conditions in China and Germany, Ms. Liu Yiqun (photo 3rd from the right), an experienced student, presented the class schedule from her first summer semester in Paderborn to her fellow students. She also described how to register for classes using PAUL (Paderborner Assistenzsystem für Universität und Lehre) and what to watch out for with regard to the exams at the end of the semester. Finally, students must be able to use the "coactive learning and studying environment" (koaLA), the central e-learning platform at Paderborn University to e.g. download documents and lecture notes for their classes. From their home university in Quingdao, students are not yet familiar with these IT-supported processes for organizing their own studies.
