Excursions with a technical focus are part of the 4-week supplementary language course at Paderborn University. The course was attended by 20 CDTF students during their semester break. A visit at KSM Castings provided the group with an insight into working at a mechanical engineering company in Germany. Thomas Buschjohann (photo, 3rd from the left), head of the department "Simultaneous Development" introduced the company to the CDTF students and explained the various metal casting processes. Yang Meng (photo first from the left), former CDTF student and currently employed at KSM Castings, and Bi Wentao, a student at the RWTH Aachen translated parts of the presentation. During a tour of the company, they pointed out the manufacturing of pivot bearings by vacuum pressure casting, the subsequent quality inspection with a screening device and a fluorescent dye penetrant inspection. The visit had been organized by Laura Wachalski (photo first from the right) of human resources. The field trip was concluded by a tour of downtown Hildesheim, headed by Karina Rohlfing.
