The first obstacle is out of the way: the company with the industrial training placement calls a few days after they have received the written application. What is the purpose of this call? What does the company want to know about me? How do I act? Am I allowed to ask questions?
These are just some of the questions CDTF students have to address during the application phase for an industrial training placement. In her application training, Karina Rohlfing thus practiced how to act in these, sometimes unexpected, situations. To be prepared for the spontaneous call from the favorite company, students should anticipate questions about specifics of their career, such as their decision to study mechanical engineering in Germany. And they should use this opportunity to pose open questions about the industrial training.
Shuo Ma (Foto), who has already had phone contacts with companies, was Karina’s dialog partner in this role play. The other seminar participants listened to them with great interest. They learned quite a bit in this simulated phone conversation about this particular stage of the application process.
